MBALE: The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC)—Mbale Area technical team swiftly took action to restore operations after heavy, disruptive rains overwhelmed both Nabuyonga and Nabijjo raw water intakes. The rains, which fell on the night of July 19th, led to severe siltation, blockages within the intake structures, and localised damage to key fittings, significantly impacted sedimentation processes, and brought raw water transmission to the Bunghoko Water Treatment Plant to a temporary halt.

However, early the next morning, the technical team mobilised on site, carrying out full desilting of the sedimentation tanks and clearing all affected intake chambers. The team also conducted a thorough leak detection exercise along the Nabuyonga raw water transmission line, identified damaged sections, and promptly made the necessary repairs, restoring pressure and stabilising flow at the plant.
By mid-morning, Bunghoko Plant had resumed normal operations, with production restored to optimal levels.
Undoubtedly, the technical teams’ swift response averted a situation that could have escalated into a prolonged crisis for the communities served by Bunghoko Plant. And as was in order, management commended the team, led by General Manager Eng. Mukago, for their commitment to service delivery and their effective coordination throughout the emergency response.
NWSC is committed to “Water for All”.
