KALUNGU: Over the weekend, National Water and Sewerage Corporation readied itself to put an end to the water scarcity that has been grave in Kalungu and surrounding areas. Over the last couple of months, the corporation has strengthened its efforts to improve water supply services in Kalungu and the surrounding townships with a 2-phased intervention thus short and long term interventions.
Among the short-term interventions, NWSC is in advanced stages of; Replacement of 3,150m length along Kasakango Valley, Development of 2No. Bulingo boreholes, Construction of Kalungu Booster station and construction of 100m3 Lusango reservoir, Drilling and development of the 20m3/hr as well as the 30m3/hr at Bulingo and, Construction of pump houses.
As part of the medium to long-term interventions, NWSC has completed detailed designs for a new Water Treatment Plant on River Katonga.
While pledging to the people of Kalungu, the NWSC Managing Director, Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha affirmed that the new Project will see water supply services improve from the current production of about 200,000 litres/day to 4,000,000 litres/day.
“As part of the Project, the new Water Treatment Plant shall be constructed at Bugomola, with a raw water intake on River Katonga, and shall encompass the construction of a 1,500,000 million litre reservoir at Ssala hill, and laying of over 40km of N250mm treated water pipelines, among others” the MD reiterated.
Following the completion of the detailed designs, construction works tenders were advertised on 28th January 2022. Subsequently, a pre-bid meeting was held, allowing all the prospective bidders to visit the project sites and familiarize themselves with the tender requirements and scope of work.
