KAMAPALA: The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially opened the nomination process for aspirants seeking to contest in the 2026 general elections, starting with presidential candidates.

From August 11 to August 24, presidential hopefuls can pick up supporter forms, nomination forms, and nomination guidelines from the EC.

Spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said the supporter forms will enable aspirants to collect signatures from at least 100 registered voters in at least two-thirds of Uganda’s districts—equivalent to 98 districts—as required by law.

“These supporters must be registered voters in the districts where they endorse a candidate,” Mucunguzi explained.

The nomination forms will capture candidate details, while the guidelines outline the legal and procedural requirements for a valid nomination.

Parliamentary aspirants, including those seeking special interest group seats, can now download their forms and guidelines from the EC website (www.ec.or.ug).

District and city chairperson aspirants will also access forms online, while local government councilor aspirants will obtain theirs from EC district offices.

Mucunguzi urged all political hopefuls to review the nomination guidelines carefully to ensure full compliance with legal requirements.

He further announced that parliamentary nominations, previously set for September, have been rescheduled to October 15 and 16, while other nomination dates remain unchanged.
