KAMULI: People of Kamuli District, in Busoga are set to benefit from better access to clean water following the official handover of the Kamuli Water Supply and Sanitation System Phase 1 to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) for operation and maintenance.

The project was implemented by the Ministry of Water and Environment through the Strategic Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project (STWSSP). Funding was provided by the African Development Bank and secured by the Government of Uganda (GoU).

Construction was done by M/s Vidas Engineering Services Co. Limited and supervised by Jos Hansen and Sohene (East Africa) Limited. Phase 1 is part of a two-phase plan designed to serve a projected population of 345,550 over the next 20 years.

With NWSC now in charge, the corporation will manage water treatment, distribution, and customer services, and residents can expect more reliable water supply, better water quality, and professional maintenance of the system.

Phase 2 of the project will expand coverage to reach more households, schools, and health facilities, further improving access to safe water in the district, and region at all.

NWSC’s involvement is expected to reduce water shortages, improve health, and support economic growth in the district.
