NWSC Engages Nalumunye Residents to Improve Service and Accountability

Posted on

KAMPALA: The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Branch Manager for Kyengera, Mr. Douglas Kukundakwe, held a community meeting with residents of Nalumunye as part of ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and foster accountability between NWSC and its customers.

Mr. Kukundakwe used the platform to emphasize the importance of shared responsibility in sustaining water services, while he called for timely bill payments, adherence to usage guidelines, and greater community involvement in addressing illegal water use.

He also explained the impact of Non-Revenue Water (NRW), attributing losses to both physical issues, such as leakages, and commercial losses through unauthorised consumption, therefore urging residents to report leaks and suspicious activities promptly.

To clarify existing misconceptions around NWSC pricing, Mr. Kukundakwe broke down the water tariff system, demonstrating the actual cost of a litre and the equivalent number of jerrycans households can access at that rate. This helped improve understanding of the pricing structure and put most stakeholders’ doubts to rest.

He further advised customers to protect their water meters and support NWSC teams during routine inspections or maintenance. He also outlined the proper procedure for applying for new water connections and reassured the community of NWSC’s continued commitment to timely, customer-centered service.

Ms. Milly Namuli, who represented the local leadership, applauded the Kyengera team for initiating the engagement and pledged continued support in mobilising residents around key issues such as meter protection, responsible water use, and availing land access for service-related works. The meeting closed with both sides expressing commitment to ongoing cooperation aimed at improving service delivery and building a more responsive and informed customer base.
