NWSC Buwama, Nkozi Hospital Discuss Water Supply Stabilisation & Staff Welfare

NWSC manager Buwama Area , Mr Swithin Busingye, hosted the Executive Director of Nkozi Hospital, Mr Criscent Tumuhaise

BUWAMA: The area Manager for the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) – Buwama Area, Mr Swithin Busingye, has hosted the Executive Director of Nkozi Hospital, Mr Criscent Tumuhaise, to discuss stabilising the hospital’s water supply and finalising a proposed medical scheme for NWSC staff.

During the engagement which took place on July 16th, 2025,, Mr Tumuhaise expressed concern about intermittent water supply to the hospital, noting that the disruptions have occasionally affected operations at the health facility.

In response, the area manager explained that the supply interruptions typically arise from incidents such as accidents along the Kayabwe distribution line, particularly around Kibukuuta and Kase swamps, or during episodes of load shedding that affect pumping.

Mr Busingye then assured the hospital’s management that NWSC Buwama is actively working to enhance supply reliability while pointing out several ongoing interventions, including the acquisition of a generator to maintain plant operations during power outages, plans to reinstate the Kawumba reservoir tank, and the implementation of a supply rationing schedule to ensure equitable water distribution during peak demand or system stress.

On the issue of staff healthcare, Mr Tumuhaise shared that Nkozi Hospital had developed a range of affordable medical service packages tailored to NWSC staff needs. These packages, he said, would be formally shared with NWSC’s Accounting Officer and the Area Manager within two weeks for review and consideration.

Mr Busingye welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to Nkozi Hospital for taking NWSC staff welfare into account, noting that the proposed partnership holds potential to improve both health access and institutional collaboration moving forward.
